CoSTREAM partners from Austria

The European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) is taking care of the project management and dissemination tasks in the project.

The European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research

EIBIR

The European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research was established in 2006 as a non-profit limited liability company dedicated to the co-ordination of biomedical imaging research in Europe. EIBIR has its head office in Vienna, at the headquarters of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), which is the main shareholder of EIBIR. EIBIR currently has over 100 member institutions, two thirds of which are made up by clinical departments and one third by basic science laboratories. The network has the mission to strengthen biomedical imaging research throughout Europe by bringing international research expertise together. The platform supports networking activities in research and is key to spreading good practice, promoting common initiatives and interoperability in the field of biomedical imaging research. This will generate critical mass and help coordinate research into new instrumentation, new methods, concepts and technologies. EIBIR is a multi-disciplinary organisation providing an umbrella for all disciplines related to biomedical imaging and has in the meantime 11 additional shareholder organisations additional to ESR that together with the founder ESR define the strategic agenda and activities of EIBIR: CIRSE; ESMRMB, EANM, EFOMP, COCIR, EORTC, ESPR, ESMI, ESTRO, EuSoMI, EFRS:

EIBIR is backed by its Scientific Director (currently Prof. Gabriel Krestin, Erasmus MC, NL) who chairs the Scientific Advisory Board and is elected by the General Meeting.

EIBIR has been actively involved in drafting, coordinating and managing international projects and clinical studies, and recruiting consortia of excellence from its network members. EIBIR has been the project coordinator of several European projects under both the FP7 and Horizon 2020 framework programmes of the European Commission. Additionally, EIBIR has led, and is leading, the dissemination activities of multiple FP7 and Horizon 2020 projects as well, leading to solid expertise in this area.

Role in CoSTREAM

EIBIR’s role in CoSTREAM is to assist in coordination and project management activities, next to leading dissemination activities. EIBIR will play a large role in Work Package 7 which is tasked with the project governance and management, as well as the dissemination activities. EIBIR will lead the dissemination of project results in close collaboration with all other consortium partners.

A dedicated EIBIR project manager will lead CoSTREAM’s project office (PO) and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the project. The PO will be involved in non-technical matters related to project management that are not mandatory for the project coordinator.

EIBIR will support the project management by following up on project activities and monitoring of the work plan, allocated resources and time schedule. Additionally, EIBIR will be providing day-to-day support to project partners to facilitate efficient consortium internal communication, as well as supporting the timely and qualitative delivery of project deliverables and milestones.

Key staff

Mag. Monika Hierath has 10 years of experience in coordinating and managing international projects and recruiting centres for consortia of excellence (FP6, FP7, Horizon 2020, COST, EC Tender Projects) and is in charge of running the EIBIR head office in Vienna, working closely with the EIBIR Scientific Director and all bodies of the organisation at strategic and operational levels.

She has contributed to the establishment of EIBIR and coordinated a pan-European data collection effort of biomedical imaging research expertise. Among the numerous projects coordinated and managed under her supervision, she has coordinated the project management team of the FP7 ENCITE project with 29 beneficiaries and a budget of EUR 12m, and she has been co-leader of the communication and dissemination work package of the Euro-BioImaging preparatory phase project, an ESFRI roadmap project on imaging research infrastructure. In addition she has had a supervisory or leading role within the EIBIR team in all projects of EIBIR.

Apart from her role within EIBIR, Monika Hierath heads the European Society of Radiology (ESR) department of European and International Affairs since 2007, acts as an international relations advisor to the International Society of Radiology (ISR) and manager of the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R), which has allowed her to build a considerable network of contacts to political stakeholders, related professional organisations, patient organisations, as well as medical industry at European and international level.Given her dual role, she also acts as a liaison to the leadership of the European Society of Radiology.

Peter Gordebeke, MSc is a project manager at EIBIR with a background in life sciences. He is skilled in dissemination activities, as well as online publishing and social media communication. After completing his MSc in Medical Biology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands, he worked in academic and pharmaceutical industry research. In the pharmaceutical industry, next to laboratory work, he was also involved in the execution and coordination of projects concerning the implementation of new analytic testing methods and validation of critical equipment. He has experience in the management and dissemination of FP7 and Horizon 2020 projects.

Pamela Zolda, PhD is a project manager with over 8 years experience in preparing and managing research and infrastructure projects, in charge of project management and dissemination activities. Pamela Zolda is Project Manager of the ESFRI Roadmap project Euro-BioImaging (European Research Infrastructure for Imaging Technologies in Biological and Biomedical Imaging); and member of the RAMIRI (Realising and Managing International Research Infrastructures) Network. She also acts as the EIBIR representative at various high-level stakeholder meetings at political and scientific level
